Man Kidnaps Boy To Trade For Fizzy Drinks

A middle-aged man has been arrested by police in Nigeria after he was apprehended following a kidnapping of an 8-year-old boy from his school. The boy was returning home from a summer coaching class when he was abducted by the man, identified locally as Jonathan Cooker, who then attempted to trade him to a shop owner in exchange for soft drinks.

According to news reports, the man entered a shop in the Surulere region of Lagos in Nigeria with the boy claiming that the child was his younger brother. He then tried to purchase four crates of fizzy drinks at a cost of around $250 but when it became clear he didn’t have enough money he suggested leaving the child as collateral while he went home to get more money. The shop owner agreed, not knowing that the man wasn’t really his brother and never intended on returning.

Fortunately a passer-by recognized the boy. After it became clear he had been taken by a stranger the kidnapper was quickly arrested and brought to a local police station.
